Moeen Ali got the best of Hrithik Shokeen when the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022 on May 12. Chennai came into this match with 4 wins in 11 matches, while MI were already out of contention for the playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings batted first after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first on his home ground. MI made two changes as Kieron Pollard, on his birthday, was dropped for Tristan Stubbs and Hrithik Shokeen replaced M Ashwin in the XI. CSK came into the game unchanged.
MI bowlers used the pace and swing on offer to dismantle the CSK batting line up with Daniel Sams wrecking the CSK top order as he removed Devon Conway and Moeen Ali for ducks in the first over itself. Ambati Rayudu and Shivam Dube scored 10 runs each and Dwayne Bravo made 12 runs, but it was captain MS Dhoni who made 36* with 4 fours and 2 sixes to take CSK to 97 in 16 overs.
Daniel Sams took 3 wickets, while Riley Meredith and Kumar Karthikeya picked two scalps each.
While many though the chase would be a walk in the park for the MI team, Mukesh Choudhary made sure that the top order’s woes continued as he got rid of Ishan Kishan for 6 and Daniel Sams for 1 run. Simarjeet Singh got a dangerous-looking Rohit Sharma out for 18, while Choudhary handed debutant Tristan Stubbs a two-ball duck.
Hrithik Shokeen Loses His Patience And Wicket As Moeen Ali Bowls Him Cleanly
A small partnership formed between Tilak Varma and Hrithik Shokeen as the duo added 48 runs. But then Shokeen lost his patience against Moeen Ali and in an effort to hit him out of the park, lost his wicket.
Ali saw Shokeen coming down the wicket and bowled a shortish off-spinner which spun big and took the leg-stump to end his knock at 18 runs.
