Chennai Super Kings (CSK) found themselves in a lot of trouble as Robin Uthappa got out for 1 run on a beauty of a delivery by Jasprit Bumrah leaving them 5/3 in the 59th match of the IPL 2022 against Mumbai Indians (MI) being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 12.

The ‘El Classico’ of the Indian Premier League is seeing its return match between the two giants of the tournament, who are sadly placed at the bottom two spots of the IPL 2022 points table. MI is already eliminated from the race of the playoffs and Chennai Super Kings is hanging onto a mathematical thread with 4 wins from 11 matches before this encounter.

Rohit Sharma of MI won the toss and chose to bowl first knowing the nature of his home ground. Surprisingly, Mumbai Indians dropped Kieron Pollard from the playing XI, on his birthday, while also giving a debut to South African youngster Tristan Stubbs and bringing in Hrithik Shokeen for M Ashwin.

CSK came into this encounter unchanged.

Robin Uthappa Gets Out LBW To Jasprit Bumrah With DRS Unavailable

Daniel Sams bowling the first over of the match, trapped Devon Conway LBW on the second ball of the over for a golden duck. However, Conway couldn’t ask for a DRS review as it was not available due to technical issues. Next to go was Moeen Ali after two balls, as he pulled out of a pull shot just a tad bit late and managed to lob a catch to Shokeen at short-midwicket, giving Sams his second wicket of the over.

Robin Uthappa was expected to bring some stability to the CSK batting after two early wickets and managed to negotiate three good balls from Bumrah who was getting some swing. However, on the fourth ball, Bumrah bowled a delivery that was pitched on the middle stump and was seemingly coming in.

Uthappa fell for the trap, as the ball moved towards off-stump and hit him adjacent to the stumps. The on-field umpire gave it out and Uthappa asked whether DRS was still available, but unfortunately, it wasn’t and he had to walk back to the dug out.
