In what comes as heartening news for Sri Lankan fans and the organizers of the fledgling, Lanka Premier League [LPL], legendary South African fast-bowler, Dale Steyn has signed up with the Kandy Tuskers franchise for the inaugural edition of the league.

The official Twitter handle of the Lanka Premier League announced the latest signing by Kandy Tuskers, where they wrote-

”South Africa Fast Bowler Dale Steyn joins Kandy Tuskers franchise. @KandyTuskers @DaleSteyn62”

Dale Steyn recently featured in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League for the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore. But, unfortunately, the legendary pacer looked a pale shadow of his former self, failing to make any sort of impact in whatever opportunities he got.

Steyn participated in just three games in which he gave away 133 runs in 70 balls for just 1 scalp at an average of 70 and an economy rate of 11.40, and the veteran pacer will be hoping to shrug off the disappointment in the LPL.

The news comes after what has been a pretty difficult week for the stakeholders of the Lanka Premier League after marquee players like Chris Gayle and Sri Lanka’s poster boy of Twenty20 cricket, Lasith Malinga, pulled out of the competition.

While Chris Gayle, who was expected to turn out for Kandy Tuskers, reportedly pulled out due to a failure to reach a consensus on his contract with the organizers, Lasith Malinga cited the lack of practice after the West Indies series earlier this year as the major reason behind his withdrawal. Malinga was scheduled to feature for the Galle Gladiators.

The inaugural edition of the LPL will kick off on November 26, when Colombo Kings locks horns with Dale Steyn’s Kandy Tuskers at Hambantota.
