Pakistan fast bowler, Sohail Tanvir, has become the second player after Canadian batsman, Ravinderpal Singh, to test positive for Covid-19 ahead of the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League [LPL].

Tanvir, who is a part of the Kandy Tuskers franchise, and Colombo Kings batsman, Ravinderpal Singh, have both been isolated at a separate hotel from the rest of the Lanka Premier League contingent.

According to a report published in ESPNCricinfo, the details of Sohail Tanvir returning positive for the Covid-PCR test were conveyed to Kochi Tuskers head coach Hasan Tillakaratne.

“We have to talk to the franchise owners and find somebody to replace Tanvir,” Hasan Tillakaratne told ESPNcricinfo.

Sohail Tanvir hasn’t yet been ruled out of the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League. According to the same report, Tanvir did not come in close contact with any other player or match officials and the rest of the Kandy Tuskers squad will train as per the original plan.

For the uninitiated, Sohail Tanvir was himself a replacement player after the duo of Wahab Riaz and Liam Plunkett pulled out of the 1st edition of the Lanka Premier League.

Sohail Tanvir testing positive for Covid comes days after Colombo Kings batsman, Ravinderpal Singh was confirmed to have positive for the deadly contagion after traveling in the same flight and bus as his fellow cricketers, including West Indian swashbuckler, Andre Russell.

That said, just like Sohail Tanvir, his illness seems to have no impact on his fellow LPL participants, according to the organizers.

“[Singh] has been sent for treatment at another hotel in the area, which has been set up like a hospital. He is not at the same hotel as the others, and they are all in their bubble. The others will be training and preparing for the tournament as usual.” Anil Mohan, the CEO of IPG Company, which is organizing the tournament, was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

The news of positive Covid results for Sohail Tanvir and Ravinderpaul Singh encapsulates what has been a tough week for the Lanka Premier League after premier cricketers like Chris Gayle and Lasith Maling pulled out of the competition. That said, the SLC and tournament organizers are confident that the LPL will start on November 26, undeterred.
