Dale Steyn Wants to Finish His Career With World Cup Medal

There is hardly any doubt about the fact that South African speedster Dale Steyn is one of the finest bowlers to have played the game of cricket. He now aims big and to be precise for the World Cup medal.
Ever since his making his Test debut back in 2006, Steyn has gone from strength to strength and has gone to establish himself as one of the best bowlers in the world.
In the last few months, Steyn’s career has been halted severely due to injuries. He finally returned to the Test squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka.
Being in the twilight of his career, Steyn has expressed his desire to win the 2019 World Cup with South Africa. The veteran fast bowler has represented the Proteas national team in the 2011 and the 2015 World Cup.
However, he hasn’t tasted the ultimate success and nor has his country in the last several years.
During an interview with the BCCI.Tv, Steyn revealed that there could be no prize bigger than a World Cup victory for a cricketer.
“I think every player if you ever ask any player, they would love to win a World Cup. I think that is kind of how they get judged strangely enough. You know you can have as many Test wickets as you want but if you never won a World Cup it’s one of those things that there is a bragging right about winnings a World Cup that not many have achieved,” he remarked.
Dale Steyn says he would love to have the World Cup medal in his cabinet:
“I would love to have one of those medals in my cabin at home or wherever. I would be able to go to a bar or a restaurant and can be able to say I have done that I have achieved that. It would be fantastic,” he added.
In his 88 Tests, Steyn has bagged 421 wickets. Besides it, he has also bowled 116 One-day Internationals scalping 180 wickets in the process. Steyn added despite being 35; he has the enthusiasm of a 23-year-old.
“Right now I want to focus on playing. I think I have still got a lot to offer. I am only 35. A lot of people would say 35 is pretty old, but I am 35 going on 23. I am pretty young, pretty fit. Yes, I have a broken shoulder for two years that’s nothing I can do about. Anybody that falls of a motorcycle would tell you it takes a long time to come back from those things,” Steyn remarked.
“I still want to play for a little bit longer, but it would be very naïve if I say I am not going to do something. I have played cricket all my life, very much done a PhD in fast bowling and would be silly not to contribute somehow,” he concluded.
