KFC Big Bash League (BBL) star D’Arcy Short hopes to follow David Warner’s footstep and transform from a short-form sensation to a Test batsman.

Though Hobart Hurricanes lost the BBL final to Adelaide Strikers by 25 runs, Short was rewarded with the Player of the tournament for his stunning form.

Short’s consistent run-scoring ability in this BBL had earned him a T20I spot, just how Warner broke into the international scene. Short has set his goal high of becoming a Test batsman as his T20 captain.

I aspire to play Test cricket. It’s definitely a dream to play Test cricket,” Short said.

However, Short’s skipper from Hurricane George Bailey is optimistic that Short has the talent to play Test cricket.

Absolutely,” Bailey said. “What you’re seeing with all these young guys now, technically they’re all fine, it’s as much a mindset. It’s that ability to change your mindset and your tempo when you go through the different formats,” Bailey added.

Bailey admits Short can change the mindset and the tempo of the game.

I think it took Davey a little time to work out but the best players across all formats, that is their biggest skill – their ability to change tempo, change their mindset.

And Darc has got that. Four-day cricket he is probably still just trying to find it a little bit. But if he gets an extended run in a four-day team he will be phenomenal,” Bailey added.

Ahead of the BBL, Short was playing as a spin bowler in JLT Sheffield Shield games for Western Australia. Short batted at No.9 in his most recent Shield game.

However, he isn’t sure he’ll even be on Western Australia’s side when he returns from international duties.

Hopefully, I can get back and play as a batter as well as bowling. I will just wait and see where it goes, but hopefully, I’m playing. I’d like to bat top six if I could, but I’ll bat anywhere as long as I’m playing,” Short concluded.
