Australia batsman D’Arcy Short, on Friday, created history by slamming the highest first-class score by an Australian and the third-highest score in one-day cricket. The left-handed batsman slammed 257 while playing for western Australia against Queensland.

Short has now become just the fourth Australian man to score a double century in one-day cricket. The southpaw, who has not looked back since starring in last edition of the Big Bash League, brought up his hundred from just 83 balls. And he went on to score his maiden double ton off just 128 deliveries.

But despite achieving the milestone, he did not slow down. Short smashed 57 off the next 18 deliveries before making his way to the pavilion.

He moved from 100 to 200 in just 45 deliveries and then from 200 to 250 in 16 balls. His incredible knock helped his side Western Australia pile up a mammoth 387 all out.  Such was the impact of his innings that his side ended up with a huge total despite no other player crossing the 27-run mark.

The whirlwind knock was studded with 23 sixes and 16 fours. The 23-sixes is a record in all one-day cricket. The only other player to score 23 sixes at domestic level is New Zealand star Colin Munro. However, he did it in a first-class innings.

Prior to Short, the other Australians who scored 200 in 50-over format are Ben Dunk, Phillip Hughes and Travis Head. Dunk previously held the record of highest score by an Australian in one-day game for his 229 not out knock.

The overall record is held by Surrey’s Ali Brown for his 268-run knock against Glamorgan in 2002. India’s Rohit Sharma holds the second place for his 264-run knock against Sri Lanka in 2014. Rohit’s 264 is the highest individual score in One-Day Internationals.
