Suspended Australian vice-captain David Warner made a sensational return to Grade A cricket in Australia as the southpaw smashed a brilliant century for Randwick-Petersham in his return to competitive cricket in Australia. It was a huge moment for David Warner to smash a brilliant century in his return to competitive cricket especially in Australia.

Upon completing his century a trademark leap marked his return to competitive cricket since the ball tampering scandal in Cape Town back in March. He was playing against the St Georges at the Coogee Oval. Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum congratulated Warner on a century. However he also jokingly compared Warner’s leap in the air with Sir Edmund Hillary.

Taking to his twitter handle, Brendon McCullum jokingly wrote, “Geez Davey! This celebration is the equivalent of Sir Ed Hillary giving it large climbing his front steps, post-Everest! Hahaha. @davidwarner. Warner has always celebrated his centuries by giving a trademark leap in the air and it was no different in his return game. It was indeed an emotional moment for Warner who hasn’t been allowed to play any competitive cricket in Australia.

Meanwhile suspended Australian skipper Steve Smith also made a good return to competitive cricket by scoring a well deserved 85. It was a good knock by Smith. However, it was David Warner who gave the small crowd something to cheer about. He is definitely a great batsman across formats. The southpaw will be hoping to return back to the Australian side as and when his suspension ends.

Ever since the ball-tampering saga which unfolded in Cape Town back in March, Smith and Warner have only appeared in the Global T20 League in Canada as well as the Caribbean Premier League. It was their very first game in Australia since the incident in Cape Town.

Cricket Australia slapped them with a 12-month ban which restricts them from playing for Australia, their state teams and the Big Bash League. However, they are free to play cricket outside Australia. However, they denied a contract with the UAE League and have signed a contract with Grade A cricket in Australia.

The suspension is slated to end on 28th March. It means they will miss out on the international cricketing action for the whole of home summer. However, they will be hopeful of returning to the Australian squad by the time the 2019 World Cup sets off in England and Wales 30th May.
