Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Tuesday, thrashed Delhi Capitals by 88 runs to get back to winning ways and keep their slim playoff hopes alive. The win was the fifth in 12 games this season for the Hyderabad-based outfit.

Asked to bat first, SRH scored a mammoth total of 219 for 2 with David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha scoring whirlwind fifties. The two came out all guns blazing as SRH raced away to 77 for no loss at the end of the powerplay. David Warner had completed a 25-ball fifty inside the powerplay.

The SRH openers shared a 107-run stand for the first wicket in less than ten overs before Ravichandran Ashwin broke the stand by dismissing the skipper for 66. Soon after David Warner’s departure, Saha reached his fifty off 27 balls and shared 63 runs with Manish Pandey before departing for 87.

Pandey then remained till the end and scored an unbeaten 44 to help SRH cross the 200-run mark and post their highest total of the tournament so far. In reply, Delhi Capitals were all out for only 131. Rishabh Pant was the top-scorer for the side, scoring 36 while Ajinkya Rahane played a 26-run knock. For SRH, Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for just 7 off four overs.

David Warner’s reaction:

Speaking at the end of the game, David Warner expressed his delight over his team bouncing back from the disappointing defeat against Kings XI Punjab last week. Talking about his approach, the Australia opener said he decided to play like his old self in order to combat the challenging conditions.

“The game before, we were disappointed with that chase. We defended last game, and with two world-class bowlers in Nortje and Rabada we decided to go after it. I went a little 2009 and opened my front leg to take it on. I took a bit of responsibility at the top of the order, and take it to the bowlers.

“It’s tough to play orthodox cricket in these conditions, so I have to open up 360 degrees,” said the SRH skipper.

He also said that it was tough to drop Jonny Bairstow before lavishing praise on Saha. David Warner concluded by giving an injury update on Saha and Vijay Shankar. Saha could not come out to field while Shankar had to walk off the field after bowling the fifth delivery of his second over.

“Difficult decision to leave Jonny out and get Saha in, and especially batting a batsman like Kane at 4. Incredible knock from Saha though and his strike-rate in the powerplay was incredible. Unfortunately he’s got a little groin niggle but hopefully it isn’t too bad. Shankar has a hamstring issue as well,” said the southpaw.
