Australian opening batsman, David Warner has a packed schedule this year ahead of him, which will mean staying away from family, including three kids for an extended period. Hence, David Warner has declared that he might reconsider his playing future. The southpaw last played an international game in March which was an ODI against New Zealand in Sydney.

The Australian team will most likely visit England in the first week of September to play three T20Is and as many ODIs. After that, David Warner will join the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) slated to take place in the UAE, a team he also captains. The tournament begins on the 19th of September, ending on the 9th of November. The Aussie team will return home where they have a one-off Test against Afghanistan and four against India.
David Warner credited his wife and three daughters as a massive part of his playing career. Amid COVID-19 crisis, the 33-year-old claimed that one has got to look for their family first and sees it imperative to weigh up such decisions.
“Obviously three daughters and my wife, who I owe a lot to, has been a big part of my playing career,” he said. “You’ve always got to look out for your family first, and with cricket and these unprecedented times, you’ve got to weigh up these decisions,” Warner stated as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.
Warner, who indicated last summer that he might step away from one format in the near future, added that the T20 World Cup at home would have been an ideal way to play and win it. With the two editions pushed to 2021 and 2022, Warner stated he has to rethink about it.
“Look, at the moment, I’ll keep continuing to aim for that. Obviously the T20 [World Cup] is not here at home, which would have been ideal to play that and win that here. Now that gets pushed back. I will have to have a rethink about that when it comes to India,” the explosive opening batsman said.
I’ll see where I am and where the girls are at with school as well: David Warner
The New South Wales born further said that he would see where and how his girls’ education goes. He remarked that he has to manage his international commitments properly so it does not clash with his family matters. David Warner continued saying that the current bio-security measures do not allow their families to accompany them on tours too.
“I’ll see where I am and where the girls are at with school as well. A lot of that is a big part of my decision. It’s not just when the games are being played and how much cricket’s being played. It’s a big family decision for myself. There are times when you go away and miss your family a lot and at the moment with all these biosecurity measures that are in place, we’re going to not be able to have the luxury of our families coming away with us now and it could be for the foreseeable future,” he conceded.
Warner went on to mention the unclear situation in their respective states due to the lockdown situation in response to COVID-19.
Besides, he stated that all the players could do is train indoors, keep themselves fit, and practice on the wickets provided to get ready for international fixtures.
“We’re obviously unsure and unclear given states are in lockdown or not letting people from other states go interstate. We have to sit back and wait for the government and states to see what the regulations are behind that. All we can do really is train with our states and prepare as well as we can on the wickets provided to get ready for the season,” the Warner said further.
