During the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) home game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday, former Indian cricketing icon Sunil Gavaskar and ex-West Indies legend Ian Bishop made jests directed at former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who was recently added to the illustrious Indian Premier League (IPL) commentary team for the 16th edition of the lucrative tournament.

Pietersen had previously served as Delhi Capitals’ captain in his tenure with the side. The T20 league saw Delhi Capitals suffer five consecutive losses and end up at the bottom of the points table during the 2013 season.

Ian Bishop Mocks Kevin Pietersen For His Record With Delhi Capitals

Bishop burst into fits of uncontrollable laughter as he clarified that he did not intend to bring attention to Delhi’s forgettable season under Pietersen’s leadership. Pietersen, who has roped in for a staggering amount of INR 9 crore, was made the captain of the Capitals franchise for the 2014 edition of the IPL. Under the leadership of Pietersen’s Delhi Capitals registered 12 defeats in 14 matches.

“Only the second time that Delhi Capitals have lost their first five games of their season. It last happened back in 2013 (laughs). Kevin Pietersen has just put his hand in the air and said he was the captain back then. That’s not my intimation,”

Pietersen spoke about his tenure as DC’s skipper and said he always felt like he was at fault and hopes that the same does not happen to David Warner in the ongoing edition of the tournament.

“I put my hand up and said guilty as captain. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen to Warner this evening. Absolutely not, they have won the toss and that’s the first job done very well. And for this great city, for this great fan base,” Pietersen said.

“Absolutely, they have to get their campaign going. I don’t know what you said to your team after those losses to lift themselves up. That’s something Warner will want to tell his team. To be positive, to believe in yourself, to grab the hard chances. That is so important, field well and restrict KKR to a total that is gettable,” Gavaskar added.

Delhi Capitals seem to be heading towards their first win of the season with David Warner leading the charge. The bowlers did an amazing job in the first innings restricting Kolkata to just 127 runs on the board.
