Dean Jones‘ life was celebrated by his family as they paid the last respect to the Australian great with a lap of honour at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Saturday. Jones, a part of the official broadcasters panel for IPL 2020, left the world mourning with his untimely demise.
He was 59 years old and passed away following a cardiac arrest. Jones was a much loved character and an inspiration to many. He had donned several hats including that of a coach and commentator.

The Australian great was paid last respect by his family at the MCG. His family members including wife Jane, daughters Isabella and Phoebe and Jones’ siblings were among a group of 10 to attend the small ceremony at a funeral parlour because of COVID-19 restrictions, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.
Cricket Australia documented the entire moment and shared it on their official Twitter handle. “One last lap of the @MCG for Deano, farewelled by ten of his closest family members over the weekend. Forever in our hearts!,” Cricket Australia tweeted.
“A hearse carrying Jones’ handmade Indian coffin was adorned with the Australian flag and a floral 324 arrangement showcasing Deano’s Australian Test cap number,” the board tweeted along with pictures of the private funeral.

Jones played played 52 Tests and scored 3631 runs including 11 centuries, and featured in 164 One-Dayers, racking up 6063 runs, seven centuries and 46 fifties. Jones was in Mumbai as part of IPL official broadcaster’s commentary panel.
