Former Australian cricketer and reputed commentator Dean Jones’ death left the cricketing fraternity in shock. Dean Jones passed away due to a heart attack in a hotel in Mumbai, where he was owing to his commentary duties for IPL 2020. Following Jones’ tragic demise, his distraught wife or better half has expressed her thoughts.
Dean Jones was one of the greatest cricketers produced by Australia and was part of Australia’s 1987 World Cup squad that lifted the trophy for the first time. The Victorian’s career, which could have been more than 52 Tests and 164 ODIs for ten years, was cut short due to some conflicts and differences. The late cricketer got indulged in various coaching roles; however, mostly worked as a commentator and analyst.
Jane Jones revealed feeling devastated and stated that he left an enormous gap in their lives, which could never be filled again. At such testing times and when the grief is raw, she feels grateful seeing heartfelt messages pouring from all corners of the world, especially the sub-continent. Jane is overwhelmed by the response that Dean’s passing has received.
“My girls and I are devastated and saddened beyond belief to hear of Dean’s death in India. My beautiful husband, the love of my life has lived his life with every bit of energy at his disposal, and he leaves an enormous gap in our lives which can never be filled. He leaves us with so many wonderful memories that will last forever.
At this challenging time, when our grief is so raw, we have drawn much consolation from the many messages of goodwill and support from so many people around the world. Given Dean’s special love for the sub-continent, it was especially touching to hear so broadly from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. We are overwhelmed by the scale of the response to the news of his death and we will forever be grateful for that,” Jane stated as quoted by News18.
Dean Jones’ wife requests for privacy for their family as they continue to mourn:
Jane Jones did not fail to thank Brett Lee, who performed CPR following the heart attack to resuscitate his colleague. While Dean Jones’ memorial information gets on the verge of being released, Jane requested for privacy from the cricketing fraternity. The likes of Virender Sehwag, Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Steve Smith, Mahela Jayawardene, Steve Waugh, Paul Collingwood, Ravi Shastri, and Virat Kohli were amongst the prominent ones to issue condolences.
“We want to especially thank and acknowledge Brett Lee’s tireless efforts to keep Dean alive. At this moment, we would sincerely ask the cricketing world to respect the privacy of our family. Details of Dean’s memorial celebration will be released in due course, so everyone has the chance to rightly commemorate his wonderful legacy and bid farewell,” she added.
