Star India batsman Ajinkya Rahane has been synonyms to Rajasthan Royals in the last eight years of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has been a key component of their set-up and has also led the side in many seasons. However, Rahane might change his base from Rajasthan to Delhi if the franchise – Delhi Capitals manage to strike a deal with his incumbent team.

The franchises have already started to chop and change their teams from the next edition of the IPL. Delhi, who made an array of changes last year, had a good outing in the competition. Backing young players led by Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals finished in the third spot before losing to Chennai Super Kings in the qualifier. In order to go all the way this time around, the franchise owners have targeted Ajinkya Rahane.

As per reports in IANS, a source close to the developments has said that Delhi Capitals have already started talking about roping in Ajinkya Rahane for the next season. The report also added that it is early to saw the outcome but there are high chances that Rahane might don the Capitals jersey next season.
“Yes, DC is trying to get Rahane onboard, but too early to say if the deal will see the light of the day. A lot of things need to be taken care of before the dotted line is signed. RR’s take on the whole issue can also not be discounted since he has been a huge ambassador for them. But yes, talks are on,” the source said.

It will be a massive advantage for Delhi Capitals if they manage to rope in Ajinkya Rahane. They have struggled to find the right balance between youth and experience and Rahane’s inclusion might well solve the problem. Rahane can bat both at the top of the order and in the middle and also can stabilise the innings in case of an early collapse.
“The side has attempted to get the right balance between youth and experience and what Rahane brings to the table isn’t something one needs to talk about. It is there for all to see. Dhawan and Ishant Sharma showed what having experienced heads in the dug-out means when the situation is tough and this could be a dream move if sealed,” the official told IANS.
