Shreyas Iyer was born on December 6, 1994, in Chembur, Mumbai, India. He is known for his stylish batting and leadership skills. He is a right-handed batter and bowls leg break googly. Early Life and Cricket Journey:

Shreyas Iyer impressed many with his talent in the age group cricket and represented India at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2014. In the same year, Iyer represented the Trent Bridge Cricket Team, showcasing his talent by scoring 297 runs at an average of 99, with a top score of 171.

In November 2014, Iyer made his List A debut for Mumbai in the 2014–15 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he amassed 273 runs at an average of 54.60. Subsequently, he made his grand entry into first-class cricket in December 2014 during the 2014–15 Ranji Trophy.

Rise and International Career

Shreyas Iyer came into the spotlight when Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) signed him at the 2015 IPL auction for a hefty sum of Rs 2.6 crore after his impressive debut season with Mumbai at the domestic cricket level. Iyer justified his price tag by delivering remarkable performances in the IPL 2015, amassing a total of 439 runs. He won the IPL Emerging Player of the Year for his remarkable batting performance for the franchise in that season.

Iyer was given the India cap after his impressive performances in the IPL and domestic cricket. His international cricket career began with his T20I debut against New Zealand. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2017 and then got his Test cap from Sunil Gavaskar against New Zealand in 2021. After which, Iyer represented India in all three formats of the game.

In 2018, Iyer was named Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) captain as well as Mumbai’s captain. However, he was dropped from the central contract by the BCCI in February 2024. But in the 2022–23 season, Iyer had a Grade-B contract with the BCCI worth INR 3 crore. He also represented Lancashire in the 2021 season of the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Iyer won the IPL Emerging Player of the Year award in 2016 and then won the S V Rajadyaksha Trophy for making the highest number of runs in the Ranji Trophy and the CEAT Cricket Rating Indian Domestic Cricketer of the Year award in 2016. He was also named the ICC Player of the Month for February 2022.
