It turned out to be a forgettable season for the Delhi Daredevils in the ongoing edition of the IPL. The bottom-placed side crashed out of the competition, following a five-wicket loss in hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Veteran cricketer Gautam Gambhir stepped down from the leadership role after a string of defeats and made himself unavailable for selection. Youngster Shreyas Iyer took up the skipper’s badge and led his side to his best capacity. They went down fighting in many of the games as they failed to recover from certain losses.

Delhi failed to fire this season

Their foreign recruit Glenn Maxwell failed to fire with the bat, adding to the woes of the franchise. Their recent loss at Kotla, where they scored 181 but saw the home-boy Virat Kohli lead his side to an impressive win hurt them bad. One of their retained players, Chris Morris was ruled out following an injury while pace sensation Kagiso Rabada was ruled out even before the season started.

Hemant Dua, CEO of Delhi Daredevils, was expectedly disappointed with the show. Certain things didn’t go their way due to injuries to key players and the inability of individuals to play as a unit at a crucial time. They failed to seal crucial moments in games and therefore never had the momentum.

It’s been another tough year and yes we have failed again in front of you #DD fans! I have read all your tweets and we are as disappointed as you all are! I know you might not believe but that’s the truth. We all want to win and no one wants it more desperately than the all of us here at @DelhiDaredevils … we have hired the best coaches and bought players which are the best and you all most of you agreed post auction. Injuries took away @Tipo_Morris and @KagisoRabada25 and few of our senior players were not in form or took while to click.” the series of tweets read.

He also went on to praise the performers this season. He lauded the efforts of Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Abhishek Sharma and others. The management are hopeful of a turn around next season.
