South Zone batter opened up about his icon Virat Kohli’s celebration after reaching his century in the final of the recently concluded Deodhar Trophy 2023. He revealed that ahead of the tournament he had planned about the same and was waiting to reach his ton.

Rohan Kunnummal was the shining light for the South Zone team in the final of the Deodhar Trophy against East Zone. He played a magnificent innings at the top of the order and made sure that he help his side win the summit clash and lift the prestigious Trophy.

Rohan Kunnummal batted with positive intent and attacked the bowlers from ball 1, putting pressure on the opposition. He gave his team a fine start and stitched 181 runs partnership with skipper Mayank Agarwal (63).

Rohan Kunnummal played some blistering strokes and ended up with a knock of 107 runs off 75 balls. He took just 68 balls to reach his ton. His impressive knock also included 11 fours and 4 sixes as he batted with a strike rate of 142.67 to lay a solid foundation for his team.

As he reached his ton he brought out the famous Virat Kohli’s “bat does the talking” celebration. His antics caught the attention of many and lauded him for the way he celebrated his century.

After the game, Rohan Kunnummal was asked by skipper Mayank Agarwal about the celebration, replying to which he said that from the first day of the tournament, he had thought about that. Speaking in a video posted on BCCI’s social media, he explained:

“Basically yes, from the first day I came here I was thinking if I get the century, how will I celebrate? Only in the last match, I got the century but I planned that before, so once I reached the ton I did it.”

South Zone had a great outing in the final of the Deodhar Trophy 2023. Opting to bat first, Rohan Kunnummal and Mayank Agarwal gave the team a blistering start and after that N Jagadeesan smashed a vital half-century that helped his team post a total of 328 runs on the board.

With the ball, South Zone kept chipping in with the wickets at regular intervals and left East Zone tottering at 115/6. Riyan Parag played a blinder of an innings and smashed 95 runs but the target was too much in the end as they lost the game by the margin of 45 runs.
