Former England swing bowler Dominic Cork has been appointed as a specialist T20 coach of Derbyshire for this season of Vitality T20 Blast. The former swing master Cork has taken over the coaching reins from former New Zealander John Wright. In fact, Cork has spent the last two seasons with Derbyshire bowlers.
Consequently, Cork has provided his inputs to the English club. Furthermore, this bond will help him gel with the players. On the other side, John Wright was appointed as the coach of the county in the previous season. However, former Indian coach will continue as an advisor for the county.
Cork will like to get the best out of the players.
Meanwhile, the former England speedster will work with Dave Houghton (Head of Cricket), Steve Kirby (Assistant & Bowling Coach) and Mal Loye (Head of Development).
In fact, Derbyshire’s appointment of Cork as specialist T20 coach has come after a pattern in the England domestic circuit. Earlier, Middlesex and Durham had also decided to split the coaching roles in the upcoming season according to different formats.
Meanwhile, Derbyshire had ended at the seventh position in the North Group after they won only five matches in overall 14 matches. Consequently, the club will like to turn the tables. However, they had done a better job in the 2017 season where they had qualified for the quarter-finals stages.
Dominic Cork said after his appointment as a speciallist T20 coach, “The opportunity was too good to miss and I’m delighted to be back with Derbyshire. The club is dear to my heart – it’s where I started my career – and I’ve been grateful to work alongside John Wright in the last two years as the team has progressed.
“We’ve got players here who can win Twenty20 games and we’ve already upset the odds on a number of occasions. We’ll continue to work as hard as we can hopefully take the club one step further to Finals Day.”
Dominic Cork has all the experience under his belt and he would like to deliver the goods for the English county. Furthermore, Cork used to play for Derbyshire during his playing days.
