Veteran wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, who had a good few weeks in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, is keen to don the role of a finisher for Team India. Karthik, who failed to make it to India squad following the World Cup, is desperate to return to the Men in Blues.

The Tamil Nadu cricketer has been a stalwart in domestic cricket leading them with honours for so many years now. Karthik has been in his elements in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy playing quickfire knocks batting down in the order to provide strength.

Meanwhile, India have been in search of a wicket-keeper batsman with MS Dhoni on the verge of his career. Rishabh Pant, who has come up to take the place of the former skipper failed to show consistency. The likes of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are also in the fray but Dinesh Karthik is keen to seal the spot.

And also with T20 World Cup 2019 looming large in Australia, Karthik wants to have a go at that position as India as looking at different combinations.

“I am glad I could make all those runs with just a few overs remaining, with the World Cup coming up,” Karthik told The Hindu. “I know it is easy for me to bat in the top four and make big runs, but what I am trying to do is to stand up when the team is under pressure. M.S. Dhoni has done it for India for so many years,” he added.

Dinesh Karthik proved his finishing role last year for India during the Asia Cup and in the Nidahas Trophy. He has also donned the similar role for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Karthik wants to follow the footsteps of MS Dhoni, who has donned the role with such high honours.

“I have done that often for the country, like at the Asia Cup last year and in some of my recent T20I matches,” he said. “I relish my role as a finisher. That’s one of my strengths. Whenever I get an opportunity, I am confident I can win matches,” Karthik concluded.
