The non-inclusion of Mayank Agarwal for Nidahas Trophy was a big surprise.

The Karnataka batsman could not get a place in the Indian team even after scoring more than 2000 runs in the season.

It was learnt that it was the pattern behind his non-inclusion.

As per the new pattern, a player has to play for India A before making it to the national side, but now, another reason has been revealed behind his non-inclusion.

A report in the Indian Express suggests that the squad for Nidahas Trophy was selected on February 20, a day before the start of knockout fixtures of Vijay Hazare Trophy, which also had a telecast.

The report confirms that the squad was not announced for public and the selectors already had selected the squad earlier.

Even before the squad was announced, it was revealed that Rishabh Pant would take the place of MS Dhoni, which further backs the reports.

Had the squad been announced during the knockout phase of the tournament, he would have earned his maiden national call-up.

Mayank is in the form of his life as he scored 1160 runs in Ranji Trophy.

Following that, he scored 633 runs in Vijay Hazare Trophy, highest ever in the history of the tournament.

He also broke the record of Sachin Tendulkar for most runs in a List A tournament.

Mayank is also a part of Karnataka in Deodhar Trophy and runs in this tournament will further put selectors under pressure to keep him in the reckoning.

However, India’s next international fixture (post-Nidahas Trophy) is in June when the Virat Kohli led side faces Afghanistan.

He is not expected to get a place on that team.

With all the senior players returning to the side for the tour of Ireland and England, he might not get a chance.

Mayank will have to continue his form until next season to earn his maiden call-up to the national side.

It will an ardent test for him to keep his form up until the next season to be in contention to be selected in the national side.
