India finished on a high after Ravichandran Ashwin recreated the magic from the first innings to dismiss Alastair Cook on Day 2 of the first Test against England at Edgbaston.

Meanwhile, India rode on skipper Virat Kohli‘s debut hundred in England to close in England’s score in the first essay. He was patient and treated the bowlers with great respect. His restraint from fishing outside the off stump, which brought about his downfall last time, was superb, as was England’s discipline in constantly testing him.

He overcame all the English bowlers who wrecked havoc in the Indian batting order. Despite losing partners at regular intervals, Kohli’s determination did not waver.

With India 9 down for 217, Kohli was still one shot away from his hundred. He got there with a cut past point, let out a scream and kissed his wedding ring as the Edgbaston crowd that booed his entry rose up to give him a wonderful ovation. In search for quick runs, Virat Kohli gave his wickets to Adil Rashid cutting to the hands of Stuart Board.

Previously, India just took 10 deliveries to sweep off England’s tail in the morning session. Mohammad Shami bowled an outswinger as Sam Curran edged to Dinesh Karthik, with the wicket-keeper not making any mistake this time around.

Ravichandran Ashwin once again dismisses Alastair Cook

India opened with Mohammed Shami, and in a surprise move, Ravichandran Ashwin came from the other end. Virat Kohli hoped the offspinner could do what he did early in England’s first innings. He did exactly that. Alastair Cook was once again out bowled by an absolute ripper, and England went into stumps at 9 for 1.

It was the fourth over of England’s second essay when Ashwin bowled his first innings deliver and Alastair Cook replayed it. The southpaw couldn’t do much there, as he couldn’t do much here as well.

Ravichandran Ashwin pitched it somewhere around the middle as Cook looks to play for the line, inside it eventually as the ball grips, spins and takes off and knocks the top of off stump.

Thus, Alastair Cook departs for a duck as the umpires put the curtains down with the hosts leading by 22 runs. As a result, India finishes on a high and will look to capitalise on it in the morning session of Day 3.
