On Thursday (June 12) India managed a comprehensive win against England in the first One-day International at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. A six-wicket haul by Kuldeep Yadav had outdone English batsmen once again and propelled visitors to a very important win in the three-game ODI series.

Asked to bat first, English openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow got them off to good start inside the power play overs.

However, once Kuldeep came into the attack, English batsmen looked clueless once again. India managed to pick four wickets in quick succession and put hosts on a back seat.

But Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler revived England’s innings with a well forged partnership for the fifth wicket.

However, the duo succumbed to the mystery of Kuldeep on the day after scoring a fifty each. The tail-enders also could not manage many runs as England finished with a below par 268 before getting bowled out.

Indian batsmen made a mockery of the 269-run target and chased it down in just over 40 overs.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have led the team from the front in the chase. The duo added a match-winning 157-run stand for the second wicket in a one-sided affair at Trent Bridge.

Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 137 and ensured that he remained till the end to see out the chase.

On the other hand, Kohli made a well-paced 75 run knock. With the win, India opens the ODI series on a winning note and will now need to win one of the upcoming two ODI games to clinch the series.

Kuldeep Yadav once again proved to be the difference between the two teams and was rightly adjudged man of the match for his incredible six for 25.

Speaking after the game, Kuldeep Yadav said: “For me it is a big day. I started off well in the first few overs. Luckily I got a couple of wickets in the first two overs.

“For me it does not matter if the ground is small. Initially I thought there was a lot of turn and after the first over, I knew I was in the game.

“If you are bowling in the right areas and you are using the variations perfectly, then it is pretty hard for the batsmen. I hope they will come back hard at us in the next game. I am hoping for a Test call.”
