Serving all the nerves of the spectators, the first Test between India and England started in a nerve-cracking way. Both the teams took their chances to keep the team in driver positions. Amidst all the action, the dismissal of Keaton Jennings grabbed the eyeballs of the spectators. Just a ball before his dismissal, Jennings and Root had to stay at the crease with the stubborn bird (pigeon) halted the game for a brief period.

I wouldn’t say it distracted me at all: Keaton Jennings

Just after the clearance of the bird, the decent inswinger from Mohammed Shami took the edge of Jennings’ willow and then on to his pad only to disturb the LED-installed bails.

However, the whole drama was a bit funny at that moment. Jennings, earlier, had his luck when he was dropped in the slip cordon while playing on a singular digit.

“The best players in the world have those lucky breaks go in their favour, but that’s the way it is,” he said. I’ve obviously made an error, misjudged the ball and it’s ended up on my stump. That’s the way it is,” said Jennings as was by English media.

“Thirty overs before, people were standing up behind the bowler’s arm, so you could say that distracted me as well. You refocus, you go through your own process between each ball. I wouldn’t say it distracted me at all. I suppose it just happens to be the ball before I got out that there’s a huge hoo-ha about a pigeon, he added.

After breathing out when Rahane’s butter fingers helped him in the initial overs, Jennings displayed his class to Indian bowlers. He kept the visitors chasing the leather often than not.

During the course, he also put on a decent partnership of 72 runs for the second wicket before being dismissed in an unlucky fashion off Shami’s delivery.

However, it was confidence boosting knock for the youngster. Coming to the game, the day 1 was shared by both the teams at the conclusion of Day 1. Joe Root has been the star for England while Ashwin has been for India.
