All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja wasn’t picked in India’s playing XI for the ongoing opening Test against England in Birmingham. However, ace-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was introduced as the lone spinner in the XI. Hence the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav had to miss out.

Moreover, Jadeja did come out in the field on an opening day as a substitute.

Following the conclusion of the day’s play, Jadeja was seen enjoying his time in the Hyatt Regency Hotel at Edgbaston. He posed for a picture and shared it on his Instagram handle.

“Remember for the past, Plan for the future, but live for today, because yesterday is gone and tomorrow will never come.!!! #enjoylife #goodvibes #rajputboy,” Jaddu wrote as a caption.

The absence of Ravindra Jadeja might be felt in India’s playing XI:

Jadeja’s absence could be felt as the match progresses. On the second-day pitch report, Sanjay Manjrekar mentioned that there are few rough areas which are in the making.

Hence with seven left-handers in the English line-up, Jadeja could have been a huge difference on either day four and day five for India. However, all said and done, India is playing with a lone spinner and has started off quite brilliantly in the Test match.

India will be more satisfied with the two teams after the end of the opening day’s play. England batted quite brilliantly in the first couple of sessions after winning the toss and batting first.

Well, it was a gem of a delivery from Ashwin to remove Alastair Cook early. However, skipper Joe Root, Keaton Jennings and Jonny Bairstow ensured that England reached a position of strength.

They were well placed on 216 for three when a direct hit from Virat Kohli totally changed the complexion of the match. It was a horrendous misjudgement of a run and Root fell well short of the crease.

Kohli has often sprung a surprise in India’s playing XI.

India applied the pressure on the hosts from there on and bagged five more wickets before the end of the day’s play.

Ashwin finished with exceptional figures of four for 60 while Mohammed Shami chipped in with a couple. Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav shared a wicket each while one came in the form of a run-out.
