Pakistan registered a sensational victory over England at the Lord’s in first of the two-match series to go 1-0 up.

It was a terrific all-round performance by Pakistan which eventually sealed the match by nine wickets, Mohammad Abbas was adjudged the Player of the Match courtesy of his sublime spell of bowling. He bagged four wickets each of his two innings which helped Pakistan brush aside England.

England was bundled out for 184, courtesy of four wickets each by Mohammad Abbas and Hasan Ali. It was a great piece of bowling by Pakistan which restricted them to a score of less than 200.

Alastair Cook scored 70 in his first innings. Pakistan scored 363 in their first innings which helped them gain a huge lead of 179 runs. It was some sensible piece of batting by Pakistan.

Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam scored fluent half-centuries, and in the end, Shadab Khan also scored an effective half-century which eventually propelled them to a competitive score.

The lead proved to be quite enough in the end. England then managed to score 242 in their 2nd innings. Again it was a great piece of bowling by Pakistan and restricted them quite cheaply in the end. The target of 66 was chased down quite easily by Pakistan, as they won by nine wickets.

Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed was impressed with the sort of performance Pakistan put up especially with such an inexperienced side. He also added they are working more on the fielding aspect.

Here are his quotes at the post-match presentation ceremony,

“I am very proud of my team. Very inexperienced team — 12 players who haven’t played a Test here — but we have a talented side. Our coaching staff and the bowling staff worked really hard.

If you have to pick wickets in England, you have to pitch it up. We are working very hard on the catching. We dropped a couple in Malahide, but we took our chances here. If you talk about the Malahide Test, it was a tough game. Ireland played very well.

We got good practice through that before the Lord’s Test. Babar is not fit for the second Test match.”
