England cricket team have been fined 20 per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate in their third T20I against South Africa, at Centurion on Sunday.

After the time allowances were taken into consideration, Eoin Morgan’s side was found to be one over short of the target, which prompted David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees; to take action against the reigning World Cup champions.

As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel – in which minimum over-rate offences are defined – each player is fined 20 per cent of their match fees, per over, that their team fails to bowl in the allotted time.

England skipper Morgan pleaded guilty of the charges post their win against the Proteas, and he accepted the sanction, which meant there was no need of a formal hearing.

England defeats South Africa in Centurion to take home T20I series 2-1:

Captain Morgan helped his team chase down a target of 223 runs, to wrap up the three-match series in his team’s favour. He scored 57 runs off 22 balls, to take England over the line, after some help from Jos Buttler (57) and Jonny Bairstow (64).

In his pulsating innings of 57*, Morgan seven sixes to take home the three-match series which South Africa initially led 1-0.

The Proteas had won the first game by just one run, but the English side responded well in the second T20I, winning by two runs courtesy of some brilliant death bowling by Tom Curran.

Speaking after the game, England all-rounder Moeen Ali said that he was thrilled to be on the winning side.

“It was another amazing game. There have been three quality games, some amazing cricket, some top batting obviously and some great death bowling from some of the guys,” said Ali while speaking to the Test Match Special Podcast.

“It was a tough game today, because the wicket was amazing and the ball flies here but it was a great win.”

With this win, England’s successful tour of South Africa comes to a close.

Earlier, the English team triumphed 3-1 in the Test series while the ODI series finishes as a draw. Next up, they will travel to Sri Lanka to play a two-match Test series from 19th March.
