Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has revealed the name of the four players he would pay to watch. Nasser Hussain played at a time when the game was graced by the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, Shane Warne, Andrew Flintoff, Jacques Kallis and several other legends of the game.

After his retirement, he has taken up commentary and has seen a number of world-class players. Even before he made it to international cricket, Nasser Hussain must have seen a number of legendary players. And in a recent interview, he named the four of his favourite players that he has seen in action.

One of them is India skipper Virat Kohli. In a Question and Answer session with Daily Mail, Nasser Hussain was asked about who would he like to pay to watch right now and in the past. Answering to the question, the first name which sprang up in the head of 96-Test veteran was Virat Kohli.

“Virat Kohli in a 50-over run chase. He just seems to chase down any score every time,” said Nasser Hussain.

He further named former Pakistan opener Saeed Anwar in the elite list. Anwar represented Pakistan in 55 Tests and 247 ODIs and was one of the best openers of his time.

“In terms of being easy on the eye, Saeed Anwar had an elegance and grace through the off-side,” Nasser Hussain said.

For the third name, he went for West Indies legend Brian Lara and had reserved the highest praise for the legendary batsman. Nasser Hussain also admitted that Brian Lara was the toughest batsman to plan for.

“I’ve been watching some old footage of Brian Lara with that big back-lift and, wow, could he bat.”

“I didn’t captain against him much but I have to say Brian Lara. Poor Mike Atherton would move a fielder and Lara would almost take the mickey and hit it in the gap where the fielder had been,” he added.

Nasser named his ‘childhood hero’ David Gower as the final batsman in the list of players he would pay to watch. Gower played 117 Test matches for England between 1978 and 1992 and scored 8,231 runs during the period.

“But I have to go for my childhood hero David Gower. I remember an early game against Leicestershire and I was at cover point as he leant on one and before I could move it hit the boundary boards behind me. Everything I had admired was there in front of my eyes,” Nasser said about Gower.
