England opener Jason Roy was struck on the helmet during England’s practice session two days prior to the third Ashes Test in Leeda. As per a report in SkySports, Roy was downed with the blow from one of the net bowlers as no England pacer was present during the practice session.

Roy underwent concussion test following the blow and continued batting after few minutes. However, England’s team management will surely ask Roy to undergo concussion tests tomorrow morning as the affer-effects of concussion are felt 24-48 hours after the blow.

In the previous Test at Lord’s, Steve Smith had also copped a vicious bouncer from Jofra Archer to his neck. He returned to bat 40 minutes after retiring but suffered after-effects next day, which ruled him out of fifth day’s play and the third Test as well.

England will hope Roy to get fit for the third Test but if he isn’t cleared, then the home team will have to call a replacement for him as they do not have any backup opener. The likes of Keaton Jennings, Mark Stoneman will be in the fray to receive a call-up should Roy be declared unfit.

The right-handed batsman was given another opportunity by the selectors despite failures in the first two Ashes Tests. After a brisk start on his Test debut against Ireland, where he scored 77 runs, Roy has just managed 40 runs in the Ashes 2019 so far.

Since England believe in giving a consistent run to openers, the selectors did not tinker with the team combination and also retained batting all-rounder Joe Denly. Though he is expected to be replaced by Sam Curran in the playing XI at Leeds.

The third Test of the series kicks off on August 22. Australia are leading the five-match series 1-0. In the second Test, England had declared their innings on 258/5, asking the visitors to chase down 267 in around 50 overs.

Led by Jofra Archer in the bowling department, England managed to take Australia’s six wickets for but in the end, Tim Paine and co enforced a draw.
