Former, England skipper and top-order batsman David Gower speaks about Team India skipper Virat Kohli’s leadership role, in particular, on English broadcasting giant SkySports. Kohli registered 49 in the first innings of The Oval Test in London.
In the ongoing Test match between England and India, India is facing difficulties to score runs.
Moreover, the visitors are also facing problems with the England tailenders. They are giving much more space and gaps to the batsman.
Plus, allowing them with much more freedom which in turn saw England scoring plenty of runs at the end.
“There were too many spaces and gaps rather than bowling properly at a tailender as you would a top-order batsman, they allowed them a little bit of freedom. David Gower added.
Moreover, India is giving opportunities to settle down, and it has become a trend over the years.
However, when the middle order or the tailenders starting to develop a partnership, India failed to make a breakthrough. Thus the opposition keeps on scoring runs.
“That allowed England to settle and we have seen it countless times over the years, as soon as you get a partnership developing like that down the order it seems to change the psychology,” Gower added.
However, Gower reiterated that Kohli needs to plan or think accordingly. This situation might again come in the future, so he needs to have a second thought.
Gower also said that at some point in time it was looking difficult for England to make 250 runs. However, the Three Lions managed to score 332.
“Kohli needs to re-think how he does that if he gets in a similar situation in the future against another team. It has been a crucial passage of the day because I thought at the start of the day that England would struggle to make 250 and when they get way past 330, it makes a huge difference.” Gower concluded.
