Former Australian legend Glenn McGrath congratulated his Ashes rival James Anderson for becoming most successful fast bowler in Test cricket. Anderson was able to leapfrog Glenn McGrath’s tally of wickets. Therefore, Anderson now has 564 wickets to his name. Consequently, these are the highest number of wickets by any fast bowler in the red ball version. Anderson took 143 matches whereas McGrath scalped 563 wickets in 124 matches.

In fact, England’s pack leader has now become the fourth highest wicket-getter in the longest format of the game. The first three top places are occupied by all the spinners.

James Anderson finally goes past McGrath’s tally.

Muttiah Muralitharan leads the chart with 800 wickets, Shane Warne had scalped 708 wickets whereas Anil Kumble ended his career with 619 wickets.

James Anderson was once again right on the money in the five-match Test series against India. Anderson scalped 24 wickets in the series as he was the standout bowler in the series. In fact, Anderson is still fit as a fiddle and can definitely become the first fast bowler to take 600 Test wickets.

England will now tour to Sri Lanka and thus Anderson will have an opportunity to add more to his tally of wickets. However, he will have to bowl against the wind in the unfavourable sub-continent conditions.

Meanwhile, James Anderson gets most of his deliveries in the corridor of uncertainty. Anderson has the ability to swing the ball both ways and can get batsmen off guard.

James Anderson also had a fine battle with Indian skipper Virat Kohli. However, he was not able to get his wicket despite getting his edge and beating his bat on numerous occasions.

On the other hand, Glenn McGrath had recently said, it would be very difficult for any fast bowler to leapfrog James Anderson provided the less amount of Test cricket.

Glenn McGrath took to his Twitter account to congratulate Anderson. Pigeon post read as, “Congratulations to @jimmy9 on becoming the most successful fast bowler in the history of the game. Your dedication, commitment & work ethic are as obvious as your skill & mental”.
