Windies legend, Michael Holding feels India should have won three games against England in the Test series. However, the fate of five-match Test series had gone to England’s favour, as they won it by a margin of 4-1.

India started things pretty well at Edgbaston against England when they outsmarted the hosts for the major part of the game. However, Sam Curran’s effort changed the scenario, and the story got repeated in Southampton as well.

4-1 doesn’t truly reflect how competitive the series was – Michael Holding

Earlier, Virat Kohli, during the post-match presentation, quoted the scoreline doesn’t show how the Indians fought in the series. Speaking of the same, Michael Holding added Virat Kohli was right in his statement.

The Indian team came close to winning two Tests but failed eventually.

Michael Holding strongly believes India was on the top at Edgbaston and Southampton Test matches but ended up on the losing side. However, the legendary fast bowler feels it was a well-competed series.

”I agree that the final result of 4-1 doesn’t truly reflect how competitive the series was. India could have and probably should have, won the first [Edgbaston] and fourth [Southampton] Tests along with the third that they did win [at Nottingham],” Holding told mid-day.

Holding believes the Indian fast bowlers are a big plus:

The Windies great received a severe backlash when he commented on Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya during the series. However, he is confident of Indian fast bowlers making merry for the side in the times to come.

”I think the Indian pacers were the big plus for India in this series. India will do a lot better in Australia. Conditions there will suit them — not as much swing for the batsmen to negotiate and although the Kookaburra ball is not the best for fast bowlers — the wickets should help the pacers who I don’t think need a lot of help anyway,” he inferred.

However, as Holding said, it would have been India winning the series. But, the game of cricket always demands to hold the nerves something which Englishman displayed throughout the series.
