As England Vs India has grabbed the headlines, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli led from other front went a step ahead to deliver a fabulous punch on the second day of the first Test in Birmingham. He scored a knock of 149 off 225 with twenty-two fours and a big six to keep his team in sight. It further saw the cricketing world praising efforts of the modern-day star which includes English veteran Kevin Pietersen
It was his maiden Test ton on English soil after a weak patch back in 2014. From the statistical perspective, it was the 22nd ton of skipper in Test format and 15th ton as a skipper.
Overall, it was his 57th ton in International cricket and 29th in First-class cricket. The Indian skipper has 28 international hundreds as captain just behind Ricky Pointing and Graeme Smith with 41 and 33 respectively.
Two dropped chances cost England too much:
Virat Kohli made the hosts pay after they spilt his two chances during his innings. Dawid Malan, who was standing at second slip put down an easy grab when the skipper was on 21. He played conservatively until he crossed the barrier of 50.
It was just a matter of one-run after playing so much cautiously when Malan popped up another one of the same players. Malan spoiled another opportunity that would have helped England to sit in the driver’s seat.
The Indian skipper Kohli surpassed Ricky Pointing to have most tons as a skipper. He went past to Australian legend who has 55 under his belt. Now, the Indian skipper leads with 56.
Magnanimous Kohli has not only received a standing ovation from Edgbaston crowd but he is also hailed for his superb effort on social media as well.
