After a convincing victory in the first game, India crumbled to chase down a huge target as they lost the match by 86 runs at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 14 (Saturday).
As a result, the hosts England crawled back to the series to level back at 1-1. Meanwhile, batting first, England posted 322 runs banking on a strong opening stand, However, the main damage was done Joe Root, who proved the fact the class is permanent.
He batted with great authority as he dominated the proceedings with the bat. The English batsmen employed a better tactic to tackle Kuldeep and Root emerged victorious. Skipper Eoin Morgan also played a handy knock of 53 runs to build a huge partnership with Root.
However, it was the cameo of David Willey (50* of 31) that guided England over the 300-run mark.
However, in reply, India lost wickets at regular intervals which costs them the match. The set batsmen failed to bat till the end which hurt India’s case. Suresh Raina (46) and Virat Kohli (45)
Moreover, MS Dhoni struggled to up his scoring run-rate as India fell short by 86 runs.

SHIKHAR DHAWAN (5.5/10)
Shikhar Dhawan will curse himself for not converting the start. He departed scoring 36 runs off 30 balls including six boundaries. It was his wicket opened the game for the hosts.
ROHIT SHARMA (4/10)
After a match-winning century in the last game, Rohit Sharma struggled to get his timing right in this game. As a result, he was slow in his run scoring 15 runs off 26 deliveries.
Indian team management will want him to be in his superlative form in the series decider.
VIRAT KOHLI (7/10)
Virat Kohli continued his good form once again steering the inning after losing two early wickets. However, he failed to take his team over the rope as departed at the halfway mark.
Kohli played a 45 run knock which was designed by more one and two’s than boundaries.
LOKESH RAHUL (0/10)
KL Rahul has struggled to score runs since his match-winning century in the debut game of this tour. His poor form continued as he got out for a duck.
Meanwhile, he needs to hit the form to retain his place in the ODI team.
SURESH RAINA (7/10)
Suresh Raina played a handy knock after India lost three quick wickets but failed to take his team over the rope. He departed four short of a half-century.
The southpaw needs to take the onus on himself and score more runs for his team.
MS DHONI (6/10)
Although MS Dhoni scored 37 runs but struggled to score runs quickly as India fell short of the required run-rate. Also, he ran out of partners at the other end which put an added pressure on him.
However, he will have to be in his top form if India has to win the series.
HARDIK PANDYA (5.5/10)
Hardik Pandya had a poor game as he went for plenty of runs with the ball. He also struggled to get going with the bat managing to score only 21 runs from 22 balls.
The premier all-rounder will have to stand up in this occasion and win matches for his team to be a regular customer.
UMESH YADAV (4.5/10)
The bowling department struggled to pick wickets with the ball and the statistics prove it. Umesh Yadav went for 63 runs in his full quota of 10 overs returning with only one wicket.
However, he needs to be in his top game if India has to win this series.
SIDDARTH KAUL (4/10)
The young bowler has struggled to impress in his debut series as he remained wicketless once again. Kohli didn’t bowl him his full quota as he returned with none for 59 runs in his eight overs.
However, this is a learning curve for the young seamer and he will only grow from here.
KULDEEP YADAV (7.5/10)
Although he didn’t fair like the last outing, Kuldeep Yadav was the highest wicket-taker for India. He returned with three wickets, however, was expensive.
The young spinner returned with three for 68 in his 10 overs.
YUZVENDRA CHAHAL (6.5/10)
Yuzvendra Chahal has been economical but has struggled to pick wickets in this tour. His figures read one for 48 in his quota of 10 overs.
However, the management will want him to pick more wickets and contribute to the team’s success.
