England continued their winning streak as they beat New Zealand 3-2 to win the ODI series. Meanwhile, England beat the Kiwis by seven wickets in the series decider to clinch the series. Even though batsmen scored a lot of runs, it was the bowlers who gave England the win.

England skipper Eoin Morgan and man-of-the-match Jonny Bairstow credited their bowlers for a wonderful show. The bowlers restricted the host to a mere 223 to make the batsmen job easy.

They set the platform as they have done first up all the way through the series. The way the guys have taken wickets early on has enabled us to turn the screws in the middle,” Bairstow said.

Meanwhile, Bairstow struck a 60-ball 104 to take his team closer before departing. Joe Root and Ben Stokes did the remaining job. Chris Woakes and Mark Wood did the early damage before the spinners came on. Adil Rashid bagged three wickets to break the middle-order.

Morgan credits his bowlers:

Meanwhile, Morgan credited his bowlers to set the tone. Further, he added that they took advantage of the pitch. Notably, he praised Chris Woakes for his brilliant effort throughout the series.

Our bowlers really set the tone,” said Morgan. “[There was] probably a little more bounce and we really did take advantage of that. The execution, particularly by Mark Wood and Chris Woakes, was outstanding and we really did create opportunities by building pressure. Following that was always hard to do, but I think we did that. Our two spinners really did take advantage of a little bit of turn today.” he added.

Talking about Woakes, Morgan said:

He’s been outstanding and he’s had an outstanding winter. And if it’s a batter’s game, he can bat as well. He’s been contributing a huge amount down the order for us and obviously he leads our attack with the ball. He’s a guy who’s played a lot of cricket, doesn’t take a lot of the limelight, but certainly goes about his business in the right order and mentality.”

Further, Morgan also lauded the aggression shown by the batsmen to back the bowlers. Bairstow used his promotion to full effect smashing two back-to-back centuries.

Woakes surprised by the honour:

The experienced pacer also surprised by the acknowledgement. Meanwhile, he received the man-of-the-match award for claiming ten wickets throughout the series.

Wickets up front in one-day cricket is crucially important,” he said of his role. “When you have guys like they have in the top order, they can take the game away from you, and it’s important to get the wickets up front. Hopefully, it stems the flow and gives the spinners an opportunity to bowl through the middle,” he concluded.
