Essex vs India 2018: Essex Make India Toil Hard In Drawn Warm-Up Game

Updated - 27 Jul 2018, 11:46 PM

The three-day warm up game between India and Essex ended in a draw after both the teams decided to end it in the final session of day three.

Just like the first innings, India began their second innings on a poor note too. Shikhar Dhawan grabbed a pair as he departed without the bothering the scorer once again. Cheteshwar Pujara, who too had failed in the first innings, once again failed to get some much-needed batting practise. The Indian batting mainstay could score only 23 before making his way inside the dressing room.

KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane then took the score t0 89 before the captains decided to end the game. Rahul was batting on 36 while Rahane remained unbeaten on 19.

Earlier in the day, Essex declared their innings after scoring 359 for 8.  James Foster and Paul Walter started the proceedings on the final day with the scoreboard reading 237 for 5.

The duo began well, adding 40 runs before India had their first breakthrough. Umesh Yadav clean bowled Foster for 42 to end the 91-run stand. Six runs later, Umesh struck again to remove Matt Coles. However, Walter and Aron Nijjar quashed India’s hopes of wrapping up Essex innings quickly. The two took the score past the 300-run mark. They stitched together a partnership of 53 runs to frustrate the visitors.

Ishant ended the stand when he sent back Walter for a well-made 75.  Nijjar and Feroze Khushi then frustrated India further before the home side decided to declare.

Brief scores:

India 395 and 89 for 2 (Rahul 36;  Quinn 1-5 ) and 395 drew with Essex 359 for 8 (Walter 75, Pepper 68; Umesh 4 – 35).
