South African skipper Faf du Plessis has been charged the match fee of 40 percent on Wednesday after the hosts sealed the three-match Test series so far 2-0 with the final to be held in Johannesburg on January 24.

It is essential to remark that du Plessis has accepted his fault which won’t require any hearing from the ICC.

It’s pertinent to mention that du Plessis was fined for maintaining the slow-over rate during the recently-concluded second Test in Centurion which saw hosts eventually winning the game by 135 runs on the fifth day.

Moreover, the other teammates of du Plessis were fined 20 percent of the match fee respectively soon after the penultimate Test.

The matter could get worse for the skipper if the Proteas were failing to maintain the over-rate in one year which could eventually lead his suspension owing to the second offense.

Du Plessis was charged under the Article of 2.5.1 as per the ICC’s Code of Conduct for Players.

Further, the umpire referrals are also being taken into the view before leading to the verdict over the slow-over rate.

Faf du Plessis has been fined 40 percent of his match fee, while his players have been fined 20 percent.

The charges were handed over by the match referee for the Emirates Elite Panel of the world cricket body International Cricket Council Chris Broad.

According to the Broad, South African was two overs short of their time which subsequently includes the extra time being introduced in their favor.

Talking detailed about the consideration of the allowed time, the allowances include the break for the treatment of a player following the injury and the wastage of the time by the opposition which further takes the four-minute drinks break into the consideration.

Before the verdict came from the Broad, the charge were taken up by the on-field umpires in the form of Paul Reiffel and Michael Gough, who was further assisted by the third umpire Richard Kettleborough and fourth umpire Allahudien Palekar.
