Pakistan cricketers have a knack of getting into needless controversies and their latest pace bowling sensation Haris Rauf seems to be having the same penchant. The uncapped and previously-unknown Pakistani fast bowler has been living a dream in Australia after impressing one and all with his pace and accuracy in the ongoing Big Bash League.
He has already become a fan favourite with his impressive performances. Haris Rauf was lucky to get into the Melbourne Stars side as the team roped him in from Hobart club cricket as a late fill-in for Dale Steyn. The right-arm pacer started his journey for the Stars by picking up 2 for just 20 against Brisbane Heat. In the next outing, he announced his arrival by picking up a five-wicket haul against Hobart Hurricanes.
But unfortunately, Dale Steyn recovered from injury and Haris Rauf had to make way for the Proteas legend. However, on Thursday, he got another chance to play for the Stars following an injury to the team’s other international, leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. And Haris Rauf put up yet another impressive performance.
Grabbing the wickets of Golden Cap wearer Callum Ferguson, top-scorer Alex Ross and Daniel Sams, Rauf finished with 3 for 24 when Stars took on Sydney Thunder. His spell helped Stars win the game by three wickets.

Controversy for Haris Rauf:
While Haris Rauf has been doing no wrong with the ball in his hands, his celebration after taking a wicket has landed him in controversy. While the fans are thoroughly enjoying the pacer’s bowling, not many of them are impressed with his celebration. On Thursday, Haris Rauf celebrated the wickets by making a throat-slitting gesture. Later, the fans took to Twitter to slam the pacer for his celebration.
Here are some of the reactions:
Haris Rauf is spectacular but he should change his celebration style.
Throat-slashing celebration should have no place in a cricket ground. Someone needs to guide this young lad. #TeamGreen #BBL #harisrauf #bigbash #celebration #BBL09 pic.twitter.com/9ZzeqyTAMm

Not sure we need the throat cutting gesture from Harris Rauf everytime he takes a wicket. Clearly a very good bowler but the post wicket antics are over the top. Who’s with me?

Honestly the throat slit gesture used in sport makes me so uncomfortable. It's not necessary at all. Sport doesn't need that shit. #BBL09

That Rauf's a top bowler – but please tell me that's not a throat-slitting wicket celebration at the family-friendly Big Bash….#BBL09

I think you need to have a word with Haris Rauf The throat slashing action of his wicket celebration is totally inappropriate. You really don’t want kids emulating this kind of behaviour
