Global T20 League - Vancouver Knights vs Winnipeg Hawks - Match Report

Winnipeg Hawks got their first win of the ongoing Global Canada T20 League as they defeated Vancouver Knights by seven wickets. It was a dominating batting performance from the Hawks as South African veteran batsman JP Duminy scored a fine knock of 77 runs. Furthermore, Chris Lynn scored a blistering inning of 74 runs. Hawks were able to chase down the total of 209 runs with ease as they got there in just 15.2 overs.

Winnipeg Hawks captain Rayad Emrit won the toss and decided to bowl first in the 5th match of the Global Canada T20 league.
Vancouver Knights Innings:
Vancouver Knights got off to a good start as their captain Chris Gayle and wicketkeeper-batsman Tobias Visee added 49 runs for the opening stand. Winnipeg Hawks captain Rayad Emrit was able to get the first wicket as he sent back Tobias Visee when he was on 15 runs.
Chris Gayle looked dangerous during his stay at the crease as the West Indies great scored 45 runs from 27 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes. However, he could not get a big score as he dismissed by his Windies teammate Dwayne Bravo.
Subsequently, almost all the Vancouver Knights batsmen got off to starts but could not convert them into substantial scores. South African’s young batsman Rassie Van der Dussen continued his good form as he smashed 39 runs from 20 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. Rizwan Cheema and Andile Phehlukwayo added the finishing touches to Knights total as they scored 19 and 16 respectively.
Vancouver Knights posted a competitive total of 208 runs after their allotted 20 overs.
Winnipeg Hawks innings:
Winnipeg Hawks could not get off to a good start in their run chase. Hawks lost the early wicket of their opener, Shaiman Anwar after he scored only four runs. Furthermore, Umar Akmal was dismissed soon after to leave Hawks reeling at 15-2. However, Hawks was able to get their run chase on the right path as Chris Lynn batted the only way he knows. The Australian batsman showed no mercy for the Knights bowlers as he smashed 74 runs from 34 balls. The right-hander scored four fours and seven sixes in his quickfire knock as he scored his runs at a strike rate of 217.65.
However, Lynn was dismissed by Andile Phehlukwayo as he caught and bowled the right-hander. Subsequently, JP Duminy continued Chris Lynn assault as the southpaw batsman batted at the top of his game. The left-hander scored 77 runs from 38 balls with the help seven fours and five maximums.
Dwayne Bravo added the finishing touches to the run-chase as the all-rounder scored 17-ball 36 with the help of one four and four sixes.

JP Duminy was awarded the man of the match for his blistering knock.
Winnipeg Hawks will next take on Toronto Nationals on July 29 whereas Vancouver Knights will go up against Montreal Tigers on the same date.
