South Africa allrounder Chris Morris has signed up for Hampshire for this year’s Vitality Blast. The news comes just a couple of days after his ODI career came back on the track with South African including him in their World Cup squad. Morris had failed to make it to the World Cup squad initially but has now been included to replace injured fast-bowler Anrich Nortje.

Morris’ stint with Hampshire will start at the end of his World Cup commitments. The fast-bowling allrounder will be plying his trade for the county outfit for the entire season. Morris remains one of the most sought after allrounders in the game. His fast bowling, hard-hitting abilities and electric fielding make him a prized asset in the shortest format of the game.

He has so far played 23 T20 Internationals since his debut against New Zealand in 2012. He averages 20.50 with the ball in T20Is with a strike rate of 130.39 with the bat. He also has ample experience of playing franchise cricket, having plied his trade in India, Caribbeans as well as England. He is currently playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Hampshire for the Vitality Blast,” Chris Morris said. “It’s an exciting tournament and it’s an exciting summer coming up – I can’t wait to get there and play at the Ageas Bowl and express what I can do.”

Hampshire director of cricket, Giles White welcomed Morris, saying:

“We were delighted when Chris agreed early on to join us for the season. He’s a dynamic batsman in the middle-order and a handful with the ball both up front and at the death, so he’s a great fit for us and hopefully he’ll make a big difference this summer.”

Meanwhile, Hampshire will start their Vitality Blast campaign on July 19 when they host Sussex.
