Harbhajan Singh Berates Australian Journalist For 'Sweeper' Comment On Virat Kohli

Harbhajan Singh has slammed Australian journalist, Dennis Freedman after the latter caused a huge stir on Twitter  by tweeting a picture of India skipper Virat Kohli and calling him a ‘sweeper’. Freedman posted a picture of Virat Kohli from last year, when he was cleaning the stands at Eden Gardens as a part of the Swatch Bharat campaign and wrote a controversial comment: “Sweepers clean the stadium in readiness for the World XI match”.

As expected, he was severely criticised for the controversial tweet and Harbhajan has also joined the critics’ bandwagon.

“Shame on this guy to actually put such a comment. It is very stupid of this guy to write something on Virat Kohli or for that matter anyone. You have got to maintain the dignity and understand who we are talking about and you do not need to show anyone down. At the end of the day we are all human beings whether we are Australians, Indians or Pakistanis. Let us just respect the fact that we are human beings without putting anyone down,” Harbhajan told India Today.

“I do not think that Virat needs to respond to everyone because when an elephant walks on the street then there are a lot of dogs that bark. Virat Kohli is an elephant and he does not need to give answers to all these guys who are commenting on him or saying things about him because they can never be someone like Virat Kohli, it is as simple as that,” added Harbhajan.

Well, Kohli will have a chance to give a fitting reply to the journalist when India take on Australia in the upcoming five-match ODI series. The India skipper had a disastrous Test series against Steve Smith & Co. earlier this year and will be desperate to make amends in the upcoming series.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
