Harbhajan Singh Identifies New Spinner For Team India

Not a part of the Indian team anymore, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh is keeping a keen on what is going on around him. He recently backed Sanju Samson to be India no. four batsman in ODIs after the latter’s impressive show for India A. The legendary spinner has now said that a maiden India call-up awaits Vidarbha spinner Akshay Wakhare.
Akshay Wakhare has been one of the most consistent performers in domestic cricket in the last couple of years. At 33, there may be the argument that age isn’t on his side but there is no stopping Akshay Wakhare at the moment.

On Saturday, he picked up his 19th first-class five-for to power India Red to Duleep Trophy glory. India Red had already taken a 157-run lead in the first innings before Wakhare’s five for just 13 helped them bowl out Green for just 119 in 39.5 overs. India Red won the title-decider by an innings and 38 runs. Wakhare picked up his five wickets in just 5.5 overs.

Impressed with Wakhare’s consistent performances, Harbhajan believes that the spinner is now all set to receive his Test call-up. The spin legend pointed out Wakhare’s performance in Ranji Trophy in recent years as he wrote:

Well, Wakhare will have his task cut out if he does receive his maiden senior call-up. Team India is already facing a lot of headache over which spinner to pick in the playing eleven. In the recent tour of West Indies, the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav had to warm the bench as Ravindra Jadeja was preferred.
