Navdeep Saini, on Wednesday, once again proved his immense potential with a starring display for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kings XI Punjab.  Kings XI’s decision to bowl first proved wrong as the hosts piled up 202 for 4. AB de Villiers was the star of the show with the bat. The former South Africa skipper took the Kings XI bowlers to the cleaners, hammering an unbeaten 82 from just 44 deliveries.

Royal Challengers were reeling at 81 for 4 before de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis steadied the ship. The two first took their time before unleashing the big shots during their unbeaten partnership of 121 runs. In reply, Kings XI started well but soon found themselves in trouble. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal took the score past the 100-run mark in just the 9th over before departing in quick succession.

But Nicholas Pooran launched a stunning counterassault to bring the chase back on track. The equation was finally down to 30 from the last two overs when Virat Kohli handed the ball to Navdeep Saini to deliver the 19th over. And Saini completely justified the faith. He dismissed the settled duo of David Miller and Pooran but more importantly gave away only three runs to all but seal the game for his side. This helped Umesh Yadav defend 27 runs with ease as Kings XI ended up on 185 for 7.

The latest performance has only enhanced Saini’s reputation as he continues to impress with his pace and accuracy. And with every outing of his, there are questions being raised on the decision to leave him out of the World Cup squad. Following his heroics against Kings XI, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also echoed the same sentiment.

Harbhajan took to Twitter to ponder over Saini’s omission from the World Cup squad, writing:

“#Navdeepsaini The more I see of him, the more I think why he is not there in the World Cup squad..”

Saini, meanwhile, is one of the five players named in India’s standby list for the World Cup. He will also travel to England with the World Cup squad as a net bowler.
