SuryaKumar Yadav Is Indian AB De Villiers: Harbhajan Singh

SuryaKumar Yadav has been the talk of the town following yet another successful IPL season where he once again enthralled the folklore with his prodigious talent, his dynamic strokeplay, and of-course his sheer consistency.

Batting at the all-important N0.3 spot, SuryaKumar Yadav proved his worth to the hilt, finishing the season with 480 runs in 16 games at an average of 40 and a strike-rate of 145.02.

Yadav has been piling on runs with ridiculous ease in the past few years and the 2020 edition of the IPL saw him achieve his absolute peak as he painted the grounds of the UAE with his 360-degree strokeplay.

So much so, that former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has gone as far as hailing him as India’s version of AB de Villiers.

“There is no doubt that Suryakumar Yadav has transformed himself from being the game-changer to a primary match-winner for the Mumbai Indians. He had taken up a lot of responsibility of their batting.” Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’

“And it is not that he plays at the strike rate of 100, if you see his strike rate, he starts hitting from the first ball itself. It is difficult to stop him as he has all types of shots. He hits overs covers, plays the sweep also well, plays spin very well, plays fast bowling amazingly well. He is the Indian AB de Villiers.” he added.

As mentioned earlier, SuryaKumar Yadav has been in sensational form not only in the IPL but in all forms of the game in domestic cricket in the past 2-3 years. And, like everyone, Harbhajan Singh also feels that the 30-year-old should have been picked for the white-ball leg of the upcoming Indian tour of Australia.

“I feel he should have been selected for the Indian team. It didn’t happen but he is not far away. He is an unbelievable player. The sort of batting Suryakumar Yadav has done, he has attracted everyone towards him.” Harbhajan said.

Harbhajan signed off by lauding SuryaKumar Yadav for his significant contribution to the Mumbai Indians 5th IPL title-winning campaign.

“We talk about Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard, that they are match-winners but don’t forget that this year or last year or even the year prior to that, Suryakumar Yadav has made a big contribution for the Mumbai Indians. He has left a huge impression.” he added.
