Suryakumar Yadav, on Wednesday, played a stunning knock of 79 not out to power Mumbai Indians to a huge win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. With the 8th win in 12 games this season, Mumbai Indians have all but sealed their spot in the playoffs.
Suryakumar Yadav’s knock came just two days after he received the heartbreaking news of not making it to the India squad for the tour of Australia. Having done extremely well in domestic cricket and in IPL from last 2-3 years, he was being widely backed to get a call for the challenging tour.
However, the selectors surprisingly decided against picking him and the Mumbai star did not take long to respond to the snub in style. His knock of 79 came off just 43 balls and was studded with 10 fours and three maximums as Mumbai Indians chased down 165 with five balls to spare.
He came at the crease when Mumbai were 37 for 1 in the sixth over and remained till the end. While wickets were falling at regular intervals from one end, the Mumbai star remained firm from his end to showcase his finishing abilities. He fittingly finished the game by hitting Mohammed Siraj for a four on the first ball of the last over when Mumbai Indians needed three off six.
Harbhajan Singh targets selectors:
Soon after the match ended, former Mumbai Indians spinner Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to give the Indian selectors a timely reminder of Suryakumar Yadav’s batting abilities. The veteran spinner, who never shies away from showing his admiration for Suryakumar, hailed the latest knock from the batsman while taking a dig at the selectors as he tweeted:
“Class inn yet again @surya_14kumar hope selectors are watching him play.. well played @mipaltan”
