India’s leg-spin stock has been further boosted by the rise of Ravi Bishnoi. The young leg-spinner impressed in the just-concluded ICC U19 World Cup. He finished the competition as the highest wicket-taker. He picked up 17 wickets at an average of less than eleven.
Ravi Bishnoi was India’s primary wicket-taking option in the middle overs during the tournament. Very few batsmen managed to handle him while he was on a roll as he bamboozled the opposition with his deadly googlies. In the final against Bangladesh, he nearly took India over the line by taking four wickets in quick succession.

Ravi Bishnoi is set to bolster the lineup that already has the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Rahul Chahar as well as Mayank Markande. But as Indian cricket is brimming with young leg-spinners, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has asked the authorities to not forget old warhorse Amit Mishra, one of the best leg-spinners in the country.
Harbhajan Singh that while it is great to have a good pool of leg-spinners, he was quick to point out at Amit Mishra, saying that the senior spinner still has a lot to offer. He called Amit Mishra the most mature leg-spinner before stating that the out-of-favour spinner could still serve the nation.
“It’s nice to see what he did during the Under-19 World Cup. Obviously, it would have been better to see the boys bring back the Cup. Talking about leg-spinners, it is great to have a good pool of leggies,” Harbhajan Singh told The Times of India.
“Yuzvendra Chahal is there and now we have Bishnoi and Rahul Chahar as well. Also, let’s not forget Amit Mishra who is not considered anymore, but I feel he has still got a lot of cricket left and is the most mature leg-spinner at the moment and can still serve the nation,” he added.
While Amit Mishra has been one of the most sought after spinners in domestic circuit for years, he never really managed to cement his spot in the national team. His last ODI appearance came in 2016 while he last played a T20I in 2017.
