With the Indian Premier League (IPL) set to finish inside a week’s time, the focus is gradually shifting towards India’s much-anticipated tour of England. And it safe to say that all eyes are now on Virat Kohli’s county stint with Surrey which will more or less set the tone for the upcoming tour.

The India skipper has signed up with Surrey and will play for them for the whole month of June. The 29-year old Kohli is so keen to prepare for the England series that he has given the historic Afghanistan Test a miss.

In 2014, Kohli had endured a torrid time against England, scoring only 134 runs from 10 innings. India had lost the series 3-1 and Kohli was one of the worst performers. He had scored 1, 8, 25, 0, 39, 28, 0, 7, 6 and 20 in the five Tests and finished the series with an average of 13.50.

However, Kohli has come a long way since that disastrous tour. He is arguably the best batsman in the world right now and has already proved himself in Australia and South Africa. During the tour of Australia in 2014-15, he had slammed four tons in four Tests.

Since there on, Kohli has also scored six double hundreds including four in successive series. Against England in the five-Test series at home, Kohli scored 655 runs and led India to a 4-0 triumph. He was also in top form in South Africa, smashing 871 runs across formats. He was the leading run-scorer in the Test and One-day International series.

The right-handed batsman will now be eager to leave his mark in England too.

Meanwhile, in recent years, Kohli has been the captain of every team he has represented. He leads India in all the three formats as well as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he will have to play under a different man at Surrey.

The batting stalwart Virat Kohli will play under the leadership of Rory Burns during his stint at Surrey. Rory has played 96 First-Class, 42 List A, and 31 T20s. He will lead Kohli in three List A and three First-Class games.

India will kick off the England tour with three T20Is, followed by as many ODIs and five-match Test series.

Before the start of England tour, India will play two T20Is against Ireland on June 27 and 29.
