I Expect to Play for India for Next 10 to 15 Years - Rishabh Pant

The rookie wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant wants to have a big career while playing for the Indian team. Pant is expecting that he will play for the national side for a period of 10 to 15 years. In fact, it is not easy to play for the Indian team for more than a decade. Meanwhile, at the same time, Rishabh Pant doesn’t want to think too far ahead.

Pant has had a good start to his Test career. The southpaw batsman was the second highest wicket-taker on the Australia tour. The left-handed batsman had scored 350 runs on the tour Down Under. Pant had scored an unbeaten knock of 159 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the fourth and final Test match.

Pant said he is focussed on the present. “I am focused on the present. Am not thinking much about the future right now. As a youngster, I want to keep improving every day. That is what I am looking forward to achieving. Every day when I get on to the field, I am learning from everyone in the team,” said Pant while talking to Sportstar.

Rishabh Pant said he expects greater things from himself. He batted at the top of his game on the Australia tour and the aim is to keep getting better and bigger.

“I always expect big things from myself. The main thing that I normally do is to focus on the process. That is what is helping me in every situation,” he revealed.

Pant revealed that his coach Tarak Sinha has told him to focus on the process rather than the result.

“My coach Tarak Sinha has always told me to focus on the process, rather than the results,” said Pant about the mantra from his Dronacharya guru.

Pant has made an impressive start to his young career. Subsequently, the Delhi batsman wants to play for the national side for a long time. Pant has shown the promise that he can deliver the goods for a long period of time. Consequently, Pant will need to be consistent in his performances.

“I do expect to play for India for the next 10 or 15 years. But, as I said, I just focus on the process, fitness and work ethic, to ensure that I stay in the race for a long period of time. The key is performing well for the team. Personal achievements are good, but it is more important if you can see how well you can contribute to the team to make it better,” he observed.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant lavished praise on Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Pant praised his captain for his work ethic and paying extra importance on his fitness.

“Virat is influencing cricketers all over the world. His work ethics, to be at the gym, even on an off-day. If he can do that as a legend, for me he is a legend, why can’t we do that,” he queried.

Rishabh Pant has done a good job in the recent past. Consequently, the wicketkeeper-batsman will like to continue his good show. Pant has received his chance for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. Thus, Pant will like to seal his World Cup spot.
