Young India all-rounder, Washington Sundar recently admitted that fear gripped him at the start of 2017 when he was left out of his state team Tamil Nadu team and subsequently his future was uncertain.

Meanwhile, Sundar grabbed eyeballs during the last year’s Indian Premier League’s (IPL) edition. He eventually got into the Indian team and did a fair job so far.

However, in a recent interview to Telegraph.co.in, Sundar relived his past experiences.

I honestly did fear a lot about how my life was going to be, how my career was going to be, where am I going to end up in the next five years? A lot of fear gripped me,” he said.

Sundar made a mark for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant(s) in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after ace-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin pulled out at the last moment due to Sports Hernia.

“I knew I had a couple of months to myself and I just went to the ground and just trained hard. My training schedule usually lasted for six-seven hours,” he added.

Sundar bowled in the crucial powerplay overs, helped RPS to reach the final, however, they lost it against Mumbai Indians (MI). Sundar admits this was the turning point of his life.

It was kind of a turning point in my life… it did change a lot. Financially it did really help a lot, especially my family. And life has been going pretty smooth ever since,” he continues.

Making his One-day International debut against Sri Lanka in December, he also represented India in the Nidahas Trophy. He had an economy rate of less than six throughout the T20I triangular series and did a fantastic job.

All the years I’ve been sharing a room with my sister, which is sometimes annoying, but yeah, some good fun also. But then being in a good room gives you some peace and gives some time for yourself. It’s just one bed and a PlayStation,” he added.

Meanwhile, this is just the beginning for the young cricketer but Washington Sundar is happy and believes that the days of fear and uncertainty has passed by.

“Modern cricketers, they don’t really get to be at home a long time. Those couple of months at home, that’s when the real happiness comes,” he concluded.
