India banked on Dinesh Karthik’s late night cameo to win the Nidahas Trophy final against Bangladesh. In a cracker of a match, India beat Bangladesh by four wickets with a last-ball six from Karthik.
Batting first Bangladesh posted 166 on the board With Sabbir Rahman coming to the party. Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan provided some support at the end.
Meanwhile, India bowlers were brilliant in containing an in-form Bangladesh batting line-up. The spinning duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar claimed four wickets giving away only 38 runs.
In reply, Rohit Sharma gave India a solid start. Lokesh Rahul and Manish Pandey scored some important runs in the middle. However, it was Karthik’s cameo at the end that sealed the match for India.

Karthik announced his arrival in the second last over when he took Rubel Hossain for 22 runs. The drama unfolded in the last over when India needed five runs on the last ball. Karthik slammed a flat six over extra cover to clinch the issue.
“I have been practising these shots – having a strong base and then hitting from there,” Karthik said after the match. “Happy to be where I’m and thanks to the support staff who have kept on supporting me for the last few months,” he added.
Further, Karthik expressed his delight in winning the trophy.
“Really happy to come out of this tournament. Wouldn’t have done justice to the tournament had we not won with the bunch of young guys in the team,” Karthik concluded.
