Mumbai Indians’ (MI) West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard has said that he was more impressed with his two wickets than his amazing knock of 87* against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 27th match of the recently suspended Indian Premier League (IPL 2021).

The match was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and saw the arch-rivals going against one another on a batting beauty of the pitch. Rohit Sharma, the MI captain won the toss and chose to bowl first.

The decision came back to haunt them, as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted 218/4 in the 20 overs. Faf du Plessis (50 in 28 balls) and Moeen Ali (58 in 36 balls) set up a grand platform for the following batsmen adding 108 runs for the second wicket.

Then came one of the best overall destructive knocks as Ambati Rayudu slammed 72* in just 27 balls with 4 fours and 7 sixes to his name, as CSK posted a huge total on the board. However, it was known that the total might prove to be inadequate as MI had some world-class batsmen.

However, none of those world-class batsmen could get past Quinton de Kock’s 38, as Rohit Sharma (35) and Krunal Pandya (32) tried their best, but couldn’t get the CSK bowlers away. Then Kieron Pollard played what has been dubbed as one of the best knocks in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Despite Scoring All The Runs, I Think I Was Most Impressed With My Two Wickets With My Bowling: Kieron Pollard

Pollard slammed a powerful and fierce 87* in 34 balls with him hitting 8 sixes and 6 fours in his knock at a strike rate of 255.83. Mumbai Indians won the match with 4 wickets in hand on the last ball of the match and Pollard was named the Player of the Match.

While his knock that was more talked about, Pollard said that it was his bowling spell, during which he claimed the scalps of CSK opener Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina, that he was most impressed with.

“Someone needed to stand up and yeah it was a good day for me all-around from a cricketing point of view. Despite scoring all the runs, I think I was most impressed with my two wickets with my bowling! For me it is just a matter of getting the team over the line and doing what is necessary,” Pollard said in a clip released by MI on the occasion of his 34th birthday.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians were placed fourth in the points table at the time of IPL 2021’s suspension.
